Case Study: Bearing Grease for Food Processing Machines

The Client

A manufacturer of food processing machines was experiencing frequent downtimes and finding broken bearings in their machines. Their machinery included oilseed processing equipment, ranging from loop-type extractors, crashing machines, chain and sprockets, etc.

The Problem

It was determined that the frequent breakdowns were a result of lubricant leakage and the lubricant not sufficiently handling the high temperatures present in the food processing machines.

The manufacturer, therefore, required a lubricating solution that could withstand high loads, medium speeds and high temperatures. In addition, the lubricant had to be reliable and not leak out of the machinery.

The Solution – Molykote G-4700

Molykote experts worked with the manufacturer to determine an effective solution. The chosen solution was Molykote G-4700.

Molykote G-4700 is a synthetic extreme-pressure grease that combines the benefits of a wide range of operating temperatures and wide compatibility with various materials. It provides excellent performance over a wide temperature range, high wear resistance, and high load-carrying capacity. It can be used on rolling elements and plain bearings, pivot bolts, cams, guides, forms, drive screws, gears, splines and other elements of the machine.

The Benefits

As a result of using Molykote G-4700 as a bearing grease on the food processing machines, the manufacturers were able to:

  • Save significant costs through avoiding downtimes and re-lubrication
  • Meet high load, medium speed and high-temperature specifications
  • Eliminate lubricant leaks
  • Protect against wear and corrosion

In addition, Molykote lubricants have effectively been used in managing vibrational loads, reducing thread failure, lubricating bearings, avoiding microwelding of pipes, and sealing industrial furnaces; proving their reliable performance in extremely challenging environments.
