Case Study: Motorcycle Map Switch Assembly with Bostik
The Client
An Italian motorcycle manufacturer was having difficulty assembling and encapsulating the electronic map switch for their motorcycle units.
The Problem
The manufacturer’s existing process had led to slow handling times and sub-optimal adhesion to rubber.
As a result, they required a bonding and encapsulation solution that provided faster handling times and good adhesion of electronics to rubber.
The Solution
Bostik representatives worked with the manufacturer and determined Born2Bond Light Lock HV as the ideal solution for this application.
Bostik Born2Bond Light Lock HV is a low odour, low bloom, dual-cure cyanoacrylate adhesive with high viscosity. It is specially designed for bonding applications that require fast fixing, coating or surface curing. It is dual curing, offering instant and visible light/UV-LED curing. This adhesive is available in a range of viscosities: MV, HV and GEL.
The Benefits
As a result of using Bostik Born2Bond Light Lock HV, the manufacturer was able to achieve:
- Fast handling times
- Bonding time of 60 seconds without exposure to light and 5 seconds with light curing
- Great adhesion to rubber
- Long open time without activation
- Low odour
- Low bloom – leaving no marks
- Excellent encapsulation and filling
- Transparent bonding after curing
In addition to this application, this adhesive can also be used for conformal coatings, needle joints, plastic-to-metal bonding and glass-to-metal bonding.
