DuPont Centres of Excellence

What are DuPont Centres of Excellence?

DuPont is on a mission to accelerate the development and testing of new technologies for electric vehicles and e-mobility applications. As a result, they have established their cutting-edge “Centres of Excellence”, to assess the reliability, performance, cost optimisation, and time-to-market using a range of processing, prototyping, and testing expertise.

These centres help in meeting the growing global demand for EV testing and development, driven by legislation for reduced emissions, increasing urbanisation, and customer demand. Overall, the Centres of Excellence make it possible for DuPont to continuously create groundbreaking adhesives, thermal management and lubrication solutions to lead the e-mobility evolution.

DuPont’s Centres of Excellence are equipped for:

  • Processing raw materials into functional prototypes (moulding, extrusion, assembly)
  • 3D printing and machining
  • Electrical, safety, thermal and mechanical testing
  • Tomography testing
  • CAE/CAD
  • Scale-up pilot plant capability

Existing Centres of Excellence

DuPont Centres of Excellence currently focus on 3 key areas to drive EV technology forward.

Battery Safety

DuPont Centres of Excellence operating in Shanghai, China & Geneva, Switzerland are focusing on battery safety by meeting safety requirements while increasing energy density, fast-charging endurance, and cost optimisation.

Key applications for battery safety centres include:

  • Module end plates
  • 48V & HEV battery housings
  • Battery sealing
  • Thermal runaway protection

Thermal Management

DuPont Centres of Excellence operating in Geneva and Freienbach, Switzerland focus on thermal management by developing fast-charging facilities, cold weather performance, and battery reliability while keeping a controlled cost.

Key applications for thermal management centres include:

  • Cooling lines / connectors
  • Cooling plates
  • Pumps/valves
  • Thermal interface materials
  • Thermal conductive adhesives

E-Powertrain Efficiency

DuPont Centres of Excellence operating in Geneva, Switzerland also focus on E-powertrain efficiency by optimising power electronics, e-motor efficiency, and energy/packing density while maintaining reliability at the highest levels.

Key applications for e-powertrain efficiency centres include:

  • Overmolded busbars
  • HV connectors and seals
  • Power electronic housings
  • EMI shielding
  • E-motor insulation
