The Importance of Lubrication in the Dairy Industry

The dairy industry uses a range of mechanical machinery to produce dairy products for consumers.

Dairy production and processing machinery includes:

  • Homogenisers
  • Centrifuges
  • Bottling machines
  • Packers
  • Extruders
  • Can fillers and sealers
  • Bottle cappers
  • Pneumatic systems

This machinery needs to be fit for operating in extremely hot or cold conditions, high pressures and in the presence of moisture for continuous periods of time. All this is enabled by the crucial role of industrial lubricants.

Through the use of high-performance lubrication, dairy manufacturers can ensure high product and workplace safety, the prevention of contamination, improved production output and efficiencies, and reduced maintenance requirements and therefore costs.

Top Lubricants for the Dairy Industry

Our food & drinks lubrication brand JAX provides NSF H1/H3 and ISO 21469 certified food-grade lubricants ideal for the dairy industry.

Through the use of these lubricants, manufacturers can benefit from the following:

  • Reduced friction and wear
  • Reduced re-lubrication intervals
  • Lengthened equipment lifetime
  • Improved equipment safety
  • Protection against corrosion, water, moisture and chemicals
  • Elimination of food waste contamination
  • Elimination of food allergens and contaminants
  • Safer storage, freezing and vacuum packing
  • Improved general hygiene in the workspace
  • Improved sustainability profile

Here we explore our recommended food-grade JAX lubricants for different machinery within the dairy industry:

Pneumatic systems

JAX Magna-Plate 72 and 74: NSF H1-rated oils containing rust inhibitors, emulsifiers, anti-wear and antioxidant additives for use in pneumatic systems, allowing easy operation and safety.

  • In relatively “wet” systems, use JAX Magna-Plate 72 to ensure proper lubrication and corrosion protection.
  • In relatively “dry” systems, use JAX Magna-Plate 74 (with emulsifiers) to retain moisture and achieve drainage.

Centrifuges, homogenisers, packing systems

JAX Magna-Plate FG Series are NSF H1-rated semi-synthetic oils suitable for transmission gearboxes within centrifuges, homogenisers and packing systems in the dairy industry. Explore the range of JAX Magna-Plate FG products here.

Plastic bottle extruders

JAX Magna-Plate 60 Series are NSF H1-rated food-grade hydraulic oils that can be used in plastic bottle extruders and other dairy machinery. They can be used in applications ranging from chains, cams, slide valves, drip lubrication systems, air compressors, oil bearings and gearboxes.

JAX Flow-Guard is a 100% synthetic PAO, NSF H1-rated oil that can be used for plastic bottle extrudes in the dairy industry. It can be used on gears, chains, slide valves, bearings, pumps and other critical applications.

Bottle and can fillers

JAX Halo Guard FG-2 is an NSF H1-rated grease, with Micronox, with high mechanical capacity, excellent resistance to water and great thermal stability. It can be used for all manually lubricated bearings in incidental food contact areas, such as in bottle and can fillers. It provides great anti-corrosion properties and resistance to washing.

JAX Halo-Guard FG-LT is an NSF-H1-rated grease ideal for centralised bottle and can filler systems. It’s suitable for high-load gear sets and bearings, and equipment subjected to water flushing and corrosion.

JAX Pyro-Plate TFS is an NSF H1-rated grease ideal for filler valves that use EPDM seals within bottle and can fillers.

JAX Magna-Plate 60 Series are NSF H1-rated food-grade hydraulic oils that can be used in bottle and can fillers.

Bottle cappers

JAX Halo Guard FG-2 is an NSF H1-rated grease, with Micronox, with high mechanical capacity, excellent resistance to water and great thermal stability. It can be used for all manually lubricated bearings in incidental food contact areas, such as in bottle cappers. It provides great anti-corrosion properties and resistance to washing.

JAX Halo-Guard FG-LT is an NSF-H1-rated grease ideal for centralised bottle capper systems. It’s suitable for high-load gear sets and bearings, and equipment subjected to water flushing and corrosion.

JAX Magna-Plate FG ISO Series are NSF H1-rated semi-synthetic transmission gear oils suitable for use in bottle cappers. They can be used in gearboxes, offering high film strength.
