EN 45545-2 Standard: Fire Safety Requirements for Railway Applications

The EN 45545-2 standard specifies the fire reaction requirements for materials and components used in railway vehicles. This standard establishes three hazard levels (HL1, HL2, and HL3) based on the severity of the fire risk.

Hazard Levels (HL)

  • HL1: Lower fire risk
  • HL2: Medium fire risk
  • HL3: Higher fire risk

Additionally, the standard defines different application categories (R) according to the location of the material within the vehicle.

Application Categories (R)

  • R22: Materials used inside railway vehicles
  • R23: Materials used inside railway vehicles with high fire exposure
